And if you live in Japan, you have Kumon (or Gakken, or Benesse, or whatever) on top of the school homework just so they don't fall behind. And since I'm the expat parent, I do Kumon Japanese along with my oldest (3rd grade) so *I* know what his homework is about. I'd love not to be a screaming mimi in the evenings, but sometimes there's just no other way. Especially when DH (he's Japanese) comes home, sits across from me at the table after the kids are in bed and says (really, he said this *last night*), " I think they should go to Stanford!" Ok, honey. No pressure. Gah!

Thank goodness I'm not the only one that dreads this time. My 1st grader gets homework that lasts at LEAST a half an hour if not more because in addition to her regular homework, she has a list of words she needs to learn every week and another list of spelling words that they test her on every Friday. Totally insane not to mention tiring.

I hate to admit it but I really begrudge spending my 18m old daughters weekend naptimes doing my 6 year olds homework with her. And they wonder why parents end up doing their kids homework. Because they want them to get a good grade? No way - it just gets it done quicker and you can do something else more fun!
