Mine brought home so much stuff they made at kindergarten, it got overwhelming. Of course, you have to wait a decent amount of time before chucking things. I stuck a box under the tv shelf and called it the “sakuhinbako” …um…a suitable translation escapes me, but it basically means “box for all the stuff you guys make at kindergarten”. So they could still take it out and play with it, but eventually things would drift to the bottom, be forgotten, and then I could play reverse-santa and remove things from the bottom in the dead of night….
