Brother Walters' D&C Class November 29, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Hi We’re a class of 18-30yr olds in Edmonton.

We think some keys to great parenting are…
- Following the Spirit. What I mean by that is involving the Lord in your parenting and inviting Him to guide and direct your efforts (Kristen)
- Humility. I’ve never been a parent but I think if you can keep in mind that your children will one day be adults and in a way even our peers, it will help us try to understand and respect and love them in the moment. It will help us guide them in a way that preserves their dignity and agency. This is probably put to the test when our children make mistakes and do things that can hurt them and us. It takes real humility to listen and respond with love. (Ryan)
- Realizing that every child is different and has different needs. There is no cookie cutter, one size fits all approach. We need to encourage them in their strengths and on the other hand have the courage to establish rules and guidelines for a particular child (based on their individual needs) that might seem more strict than what is required of their peers and friends. (Jeff)
